Caipirinha
Caipirinha
This refreshing and tangy cocktail is considered the national drink of Brazil and has gained popularity around the world. Its roots can be traced back to the early 20th century in the state of São Paulo, where it was commonly consumed by farmers and laborers in the sugarcane plantations.
The Caipirinha was initially made with Cachaça, a Brazilian distilled spirit made from fermented sugarcane juice, which gave it a distinctly local flavor. Over time, the cocktail evolved and variations were made using different types of fruits, such as lime, passion fruit, and pineapple. Today, the Caipirinha is enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and is often enjoyed during celebrations and social gatherings.
Its simple yet delicious combination of lime, sugar, and Cachaça makes it a popular choice for cocktail enthusiasts looking to experience a taste of Brazil.

Instructions
-
1. Cut a ripe lime in half (from pole to pole) and remove the core from each half by cutting a cut a v-shaped grove. You'll need one-half of the lime per drink and this should be chopped into wedges and each wedge chopped in half before dropping the resulting 6 or 8 lime chunks into the base tin of a shaker.
-
-
2. Add 3 bar spoons powdered sugar (or ½oz / 15ml sugar syrup 2:1) and MUDDLE.
Note
- Fresh ingredients: Use fresh limes and sugar rather than bottled lime juice and artificial sweeteners.
- Choosing the right cachaça: Opt for a good quality cachaça made from sugarcane rather than alternatives like rum. This will enhance the authentic flavor of the cocktail.
- Muddling technique: When muddling the lime and sugar, gently press down and twist with a muddler to release the flavors without over-mashing. Avoid breaking up the lime peel too much as it can make the drink bitter.
- Balance the sweetness: Adjust the amount of sugar to suit your taste preferences. Start with a tablespoon and add more if desired, but be careful not to overpower the lime's natural tartness.
- Crushed ice: Use crushed ice instead of regular ice cubes to ensure even distribution of flavors and faster chilling. This will prevent the drink from getting diluted too quickly.
- Garnish: Garnish the cocktail with a fresh lime wheel or wedge. This enhances the visual appeal and provides a burst of lime aroma when sipped.
